Adults that are fully vaccinated are able to avoid quarantine when returning from amber list countries (excluding France). From the end of September, the government hopes to introduce a law requiring two jabs to go to nightclubs and some other venues in England.

What is the NHS Covid Pass and who can get it?

The purpose of a Covid Pass is to allow governments and private businesses to confirm to what degree a person may be at risk of contracting COVID-19 or spreading it to others around them. In its most basic form, a Covid Pass is a digital record that confirms whether its bearer has received two, one or no doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The NHS Covid Pass can be used domestically and for travel if:

  • Two weeks have passed since your second vaccine;
  • You have obtained a positive PCR test result within the past six months, and have finished self-isolating .

The NHS Covid Pass can also be used in England (but not for travel) if:

  • You have obtained a negative PCR or lateral flow test result in the past 48 hours and have reported it on the NHS website (this pass lasts for 48 hours after the result).

How to obtain the NHS Covid Pass?

The NHS Covid Pass can be viewed by downloading the NHS App (this is different to the NHS Covid-19 App). Once you are logged in, you can select “domestic” and “travel” pass options. The system shall generate a QR code, which lasts for 28 days.

Where could you be asked to show that you are fully vaccinated?

Ministers desire “higher risk” settings in England, including nightclubs, to use the NHS Covid Pass. The government plans to introduce this as law by the end of September, once all 18 year-olds shall have had the chance to be fully vaccinated.

There have been some venues that require customers to have the NHS Covid Pass, namely, the O2 Ritz in Manchester and the Electric Ballroom in Camden. The government have not ruled out making the vaccine compulsory for all university students.

How to use the NHS Covid Pass for travel?

The NHS Covid Pass, or equivalent in other parts of the United Kingdom allows fully vaccinated adults to avoid quarantine when they return from amber-list countries (excluding France). Adults fully vaccinated in the US and most European countries also do not have to self-isolate upon arrival from amber-list countries. Those vaccinated in the US can show a CDC card and proof of US residency, such as a passport or Green Card.

The government states that more than thirty countries, including Greece and Spain now accept the NHS Covid Pass. It is important to check the entry requirements before traveling to foreign countries.
